IFMBE, the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering, is primarily a federation of national and transnational organizations.
These organizations represent national interests in medical and biological engineering.

The objectives of the IFMBE are scientific, technological, literary, and educational.
Within the field of medical, biological and clinical engineering IFMBE's aims are to encourage research and the application of knowledge, and to disseminate information and promote collaboration.

IFMBE is affiliated with the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine

In the email ballot carried out in March/April 2006, IFMBE AC members and IFMBE Delegates by majority of votes approved full membership affiliation to the IFMBE of the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering & Science (EAMBES), Commission for the Advancement of Healthcare Technology Management in Asia (CAHTMA), Lithuanian Society for Biomedical Engineering and Malaysian Society of Medical and Biological Engineering (MSMBE).

In the email ballot carried out in January/February 2006, IFMBE AC members and IFMBE Delegates by majority of votes approved full membership affiliation to the IFMBE of the International Council on Medical and Care Compunetics (ICMCC) and Bioengineering Society of Venezuela (SOVEB).
